Learn the Canada student visa process from Bangladesh in 2027 requirements, documents, fees, biometrics and application steps for studying in Canada.

For Bangladeshi students planning to study in Canada, the first thing to understand is that the commonly used term “student visa” generally refers to a study permit. A study permit allows you to study at a Canadian designated learning institution (DLI). If you need a visa to enter Canada, the required entry document is generally issued as part of the approved application process.

Get admission from a Canadian DLI

Your Canada student visa process begins with admission. You must first receive a Letter of Acceptance (LOA) from a designated learning institution. Before choosing a university or college, check its DLI status and, importantly, whether your specific program is eligible for the Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) if working in Canada after graduation is part of your plans.

For Bangladeshi students who need guidance, Graduate Track Consultancy provides profile evaluation, admission support, file processing and pre-departure assistance. Graduate Track has been serving Bangladeshi students since 2010 and is a British Council and ICEF-certified agency, with Canada among its study destinations.

Obtain the required attestation

Most students applying for a study permit need a Provincial Attestation Letter or Territorial Attestation Letter (PAL/TAL). Your institution will normally guide you through obtaining it.

There is an important 2026 exception: students applying for a study permit for a degree-granting master’s or doctoral program at a public designated learning institution generally do not need a PAL/TAL. Students planning to study in Quebec have separate provincial requirements.

Prepare your financial documents

Financial capacity is a major part of the application. You must demonstrate that you can pay your tuition, living expenses and transportation without relying on unauthorized work in Canada.

For applications made on or after September 1, 2025, a single student outside Quebec must show CAD $22,895 per year for living expenses, excluding tuition and transportation. This amount is separate from your tuition costs. IRCC: Proof of financial support

Acceptable evidence can include bank statements, education loans, scholarships, proof of tuition or housing payments and financial support from another person, supported by appropriate documentation. For programs longer than one year, you should also demonstrate how you intend to finance the remaining period of study.

Prepare a convincing application

You will generally need your passport, LOA, PAL/TAL or applicable Quebec documentation, financial evidence, academic documents and other documents shown in your personalized IRCC checklist. Your explanation should clearly establish why you selected the program and Canada and how the proposed studies connect with your previous education and future plans.

English-language tests such as IELTS may be required by the university or college for admission, but there is no single IELTS score that IRCC universally requires for every study permit applicant. Always check your institution’s specific admission requirements.

Apply online and provide biometrics

Study permit applications from Bangladesh are generally submitted online through IRCC. The current study permit processing fee is CAD $150, while the biometrics fee for an individual applicant is CAD $85, when biometrics are required. Total of CAD $235 for a first-time applicant.

After receiving your Biometric Instruction Letter (BIL), follow the current procedure for completing your biometrics at a Canadian Visa Application Centre (VAC) in Bangladesh. Canada currently has VACs in Dhaka, Chittagong and Sylhet.

It is important to understand the different roles involved. Graduate Track Consultancy provides professional study-abroad guidance and application support, VFS Global provides VAC services, and IRCC makes the final immigration decision. VFS Global confirms that its role includes administrative services such as appointment scheduling, biometrics collection and passport handling.

Depending on your circumstances, IRCC may also require a medical examination, police certificate or additional documents.

Wait for the decision and prepare to travel

IRCC may request additional information, documents or an interview before making a decision. Processing times vary depending on the application and circumstances, so students should apply well before their intended program start date. You can check the latest estimate using IRCC’s processing-time tool.

If approved, you will receive instructions concerning your passport and a port of entry letter of introduction. The actual study permit is generally issued when you arrive in Canada.

Can students work while studying?

Eligible international students can generally work up to 24 hours per week off campus during regular academic sessions and can work unlimited hours during scheduled breaks, provided they continue to meet the conditions of their study permit. A scheduled break must generally be at least 7 consecutive days and officially scheduled by the educational institution.

Final advice for Bangladeshi applicants

The Canada student visa process is not simply about having an admission letter and enough money. Your application should present a consistent and credible picture of your academic history, chosen program, financial situation and future plans. Never submit altered bank documents, misleading information or suspicious financial transactions.

If you are unsure where to begin, Graduate Track Consultancy can help you assess your profile, explore suitable Canadian study options and navigate the admission and visa process from Bangladesh.
